If 3.1 million show up to the polls on Election Day, the state will have surpassed the previous turnout record set in 1992. In 2016, Trump led by two-tenths of a point going into Election Day, but ultimately came out 1.2 percent ahead in the results.

Read full article: Florida Republicans continue cutting Democrats’ lead in ballotsTALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With five days remaining in the 2020 election, Florida Democrats maintain an advantage in ballots cast, but the GOP continues to cut into their lead. On Saturday, Florida Democrats had cast nearly 400,000 more votes than Republicans. Still unknown is how the 1.5 million votes cast by Independent voters will be shared between the candidates. “Republicans put 200,000 more new Republicans into the can than Democrats did by out registering them,” said Vancore.

GOP narrows Democrats’ early vote lead in Florida
Read full article: GOP narrows Democrats’ early vote lead in FloridaTALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Democrats have held a historic lead in pre-election day voting, outpacing Republican returns by hundreds of thousands, but the GOP is beginning to cut into that lead. Republicans are hoping to recreate the victory scored in Florida in 2016 with Election Day turnout at the center of the strategy. That was on Vice President Mike Pence’s mind as he spoke in Tallahassee over the weekend. And even Monday morning, the site pitched by the vice president wasn’t exactly bustling with activity and prospective voters. In 2016, Trump won Florida by just 112,911 votes, defeating Hilary Clinton by 1.2 percent of the popular vote.

Read full article: Fight over face mask mandate goes to appeals courtTALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A battle about the constitutionality of a Leon County ordinance that requires people to wear face masks to try to curb the spread of COVID-19 is headed to a state appeals court. The Leon County case is one of several playing out across the state after local governments passed face-mask requirements to try to address the pandemic. The notice of appeal, as is common, does not detail the arguments that Power and his attorney, Sabatini, will make at the Tallahassee-based appeals court. E.g., motorcycle helmet laws, seatbelt laws and prohibitions against smoking in public buildings,” Cooper wrote. Leon County and other local governments have passed such ordinances as Gov.

Florida Democrats return PPP money
Read full article: Florida Democrats return PPP moneyTALLAHASSEE, Fla. The Florida Democratic Party applied for and received $780,000 from the Payroll Protection Program, but the party should not have applied in the first place. Criticism for accepting the PPP money has come from both inside and outside the Democratic Party. In a statement, the Florida Democratic Party said, in part: The bank, the loan processor and agents of the Small Business Association approved the funding. I really wish that the Trump administration was as responsive when it came to actually funding PPP, said Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, the lone statewide elected Democrat. At least one Tallahassee lobbying firm has also returned PPP money.

Lawsuit asserts mask ordinance violates privacy rights
Read full article: Lawsuit asserts mask ordinance violates privacy rightsStarting at midnight Thursday, people entering businesses in the states capital will be required to wear a face mask or face fines between $50 and $250. But Leon County Republican Party Chair Evan Power said the lawsuit he intends to file will make a privacy argument because the ordinance exempts people with certain health issues from wearing a mask. Florida does have heightened privacy protections embedded in the state Constitution, but Morley is skeptical a court would strike the ordinance down. But Dr. Ron Saff, who has advocated for a statewide mask mandate on behalf of Physicians for Social Responsibility, hopes that isnt the case. The governor does not typically wear a mask during news briefings at the Capitol and has consistently rejected the idea of issuing a statewide mask order amid the coronavirus pandemic, citing concerns over equal enforcement.
