Farm Share, a Florida-based food nonprofit teamed up with St. Augustine businesses to host a drive-through food distribution Tuesday to provide produce and non-perishable food to those in need. With all the food, bagged and ready to go, volunteers with FarmShare had to start the giveaway early. “I’m 65, retired and on social security and retirement -- so I need it too.”Fresh produce and non-perishable canned goods -- organizers and volunteers packaged enough to serve 500 families. “It’s great to see smiles and to hear people being grateful,” said Chuck, a volunteer. “It’s a great way to spend the day.”The nonprofit held the event along with the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, Belk, Sunbelt Rentals, Wilson Heating & Air Conditioning, and Sertoma at the Belk parking lot at the Ponce De Leon Mall.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FarmShare and other local businesses are doing their part to make sure no one in Northeast Florida goes hungry with drive-thru food distribution events around the area. Farm Shares said 816 families picked up more than 50,000 pounds of produce, meat and canned goods within three hours at the drive-thru event. Costco pitched in by donating 75 Christmas trees that will be given out in addition to the food. They can get enough food to last an entire week, and they can come back the next week,” said Green. FarmShare will also hold a food distribution drive-thru event beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Ponce De Leon Mall at 2121 U.S. 1 in St. Augustine.

There were two drive-thru events: one at the Jax Fairground and another at the Jessie Ball DuPont Center. FarmShare plans to hold food giveaways every Tuesday and Thursday. It’s taking one less stress off of helping provide families with food that they need for Thanksgiving,” Johnson said. Look for more food giveaways on FarmShare’s distribution schedule. Another food giveaway --not affiliated with FarmShare-- will be held Saturday, November 21 at Deermeadows Church, located at 9780 Baymeadows Road.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FarmShare and several other agencies teamed up Saturday morning to distribute thousands of pounds of food to help those in need. Hundreds of cars went through the drive-thru site at the Community Health Outreach on Timuquana Road. “It’s me, my husband, my nephew and I also have a 2-year-old granddaughter.”Community Health Outreach, Farm Share & other orgs hosting food distribution on Timuquana rd. Virginia Pillsbury with Community Health Outreach said usually on a Saturday, it sees 350 cars, but today they expected up to 1,000. Pillsbury said the need is continuously growing and last week alone they distributed 50,000 pounds of food.
