The $1 billion-plus of giving by each of the top five on the Philanthropy 50 matches last year’s record. No more than three donors gave $1 billion or more in any of the previous years. Colleges and universities received $2.2 billion from Philanthropy 50 donors in 2020.

On Tuesday, Eastside Florida Farm Share teamed up with the Church of Oakland to distribute food to around 1,600 families, the first of six distributions of free food in Jacksonville this week. Saturday, 9 a.m.: Farm Share partners with Congressman Al Lawson to feed Jacksonville families at Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, 10325 Interstate Center Drive. Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Farm Share partners with Holy Spirit Catholic Church to feed 300 families, 11665 Fort Caroline Road. Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon: Farm Share partners with Legacy Ministries to feed 300 Jacksonville families, 825 University Blvd.

Every third Thursday for the next 8-months families in Clay County can pick up fresh produce, meat, milk, and other food items for free. The food bank is held from 5-6:30 p.m. at Wilkinson Junior High School. It’s meant to help families in food deserts get access to quality food throughout the year. Any food leftover after each giveaway will be stored at the junior high school, through its kitchen shelves program.

Food insecurity is defined as the disruption of food intake or eating patterns because of a lack of money and other resources. “When you break it right down, food insecurity is that you don’t know where your next meal will come from,” Feeding Northeast Florida CEO Susan King said. It shows 125,000 more people in the region will fall into the condition of food insecurity by November. Putting it into numbers, prior to the pandemic, Feeding Northeast Florida was processing about 50,000 pounds of food every day.

People just arent spending them as regularly at businesses, many of which are either temporarily closed or not accepting cash. But Southeastern Grocers, Inc. (SEG), the parent company of Winn-Dixie, Harveys Supermarket, BI-LO and Fresco y Ms, is turning that coin shortage into a chance to help several charities with the Positive Change Round Up Campaign. All change donated will be electronically collected and the total will be rounded up to the nearest dollar by Southeastern Grocers to ensure all spare change makes a difference. Southeastern Grocers has a longstanding relationship with Feeding America, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.

Thats more than $1.28 million worth of food that will help provide meals to people across the Southeast who are facing hunger due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation was made possible through customer and associate donations received during Southeastern Grocers in-store hunger relief program that took place from May 5-15 at all store registers. We are so very thankful for the donation from Southeastern Grocers and its customers.Southeastern Grocers has a longstanding partnership with Feeding America and the communities it serves.
