Parents and children demonstrated what their walk to school would be like if Fishweir Elementary School closed and those students were forced to attend Ruth Upson Elementary.

The Jacksonville City Council joined with the Duval County School Board on Wednesday morning to hear about some of the school district’s key issues.

Students and faculty made signs and gathered to celebrate Valdres’ thirty years of hard work and dedication to the school.

On the last day of Black History Month, Fishweir Elementary School grades 3-5 held a “Live Wax Museum” to celebrate those who made an impact on the world.

Fishweir Elementary School principal Kimberly M. Dennis won Elementary Principal of the Year in Duval County! She walked up to Fishweir Elementary School on a red carpet, received flowers, balloons, and was showered with cheers and love. Fishweir Elementary PTA posted on Facebook to celebrate saying, "CONGRATULATIONS! JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A fifth grader at Fishweir Elementary School wrote a letter to Mayor Lenny Curry and the Jacksonville City Council expressing support for a half-cent sales tax that would help crumbling schools in Duval County. Audrey Parman, a 10-year-old, said she loves her school, but it's about to be 103 years old. Audrey's letter to the mayor and City Council encourages them to allow voters to decide on the half-cent sales tax. Curry emailed a response to Aubrey, which reads:Dear Ms. Parman, Thank you for sharing this letter from your daughter, Audrey. Like any local legislation, the sales tax proposal by the Duval County School Board will go before City Council for consideration.
