JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Florida Department of Health on Friday morning reported yet another record increase in COVID-19 cases in Duval County, St. Johns County and statewide. The Florida data released Friday marked the ninth day in a row with an increase near or exceeding 3,000 cases. The numbers Thursday also showed record increases in coronavirus cases for both Duval and St. Johns counties for the second day in a row. Duval is up to 4,171 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 447 cases in a single day. St. Johns Countys confirmed cases were up by 83 to a total of 682.

The numbers Thursday also showed record increases in coronavirus cases for both Duval and St. Johns counties. Duval is up to 3,724 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 305 cases in a single day. St. Johns Countys confirmed cases were up by 51 to a total of 599. Across the state, Florida has now reported a total of 114,018 cases, up 5,004 from the previous day. The increase came a day after Florida shattered its previous one-day record, with more than 5,500 new positive cases reported on Wednesday.
DeSantis: No plans to move to next phase of reopening Florida amid spike
Ron DeSantis said Thursday that he has no plans of moving to the third and final phase of reopening the Florida economy as the state continues to see a surge in new COVID-19 cases. DeSantis said the state may be seeing an increase in cases because Florida residents have let their guard down. According to DeSantis reopening plan, Phase 3 will begin after the successful conclusion of Phase 2, which includes a downward trajectory of the syndromic and epidemiology criteria while maintaining adequate health care capacity.
