The final season of "Game of Thrones" premieres on HBO on Sunday, April 14. The cable network announced Tuesday it has ordered a "Game of Thrones" prequel from George R.R. The show is set 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones" and tells the story of the House of Targaryen, according to HBO. Martin is working on a project set roughly 300 years before events depicted in the series, according to Deadline. HBO has already produced another related pilot that takes place thousands of years before "Game of Thrones," starring Naomi Watts. Emilia Clarke and Rose Leslie had some unexpected visitors during their girls getaway! In a recent Instagram post, Clarke revealed that she and her Game of Thrones co-star took a trip to India. ANAHEIM, California (CNN) - Kit Harington has been confirmed for a role in Marvel's "The Eternals," bringing the "Game of Thrones" star into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Harington will play Dane Whitman, aka the heroic Black Knight, in the movie. That's not one of the characters known as the Eternals in the comics, which were created by Jack Kirby. Deadline had reported that Harington would be joining the Marvel stable, without any details about in what capacity. Friday, the studio unveiled a lineup of Marvel and "Star Wars"-related series for its streaming service, Disney+.

As if The Eternals wasn't epic enough already, Marvel's upcoming cosmic drama will feature a Game of Thrones reunion, with Kevin Feige announced that star Kit Harington is joining the cast. Gemma Chan, who previously starred in Captain Marvel, will play Sersi, Barry Keoghan is Druig and Harington will play a non-Eternal named Dane Whitman. Harington joins the previously announced Richard Madden, who plays Ikaris. "We just really, really want it to be right. One of those cast members who would have liked to have seen things end differently is Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark. "I thought Arya would kill Cersei," said Turner. ET has learned that the pair who created Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B., Weiss struck an overall deal with the streaming giant. The massive deal, reportedly somewhere in the 9-figure range, ends a three-way bidding war between Netflix, Amazon and Disney, according to multiple outlets. "We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix," the platform's Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, shared in a statement. In 2017, Shonda Rhimes signed an overall deal with Netflix. (CNN) - The final season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" was a ratings juggernaut that helped the network receive a record-setting number of Emmy nominations. It was also poorly reviewed by viewers and critics, particularly with regards to the series finale. He said that, despite online petitions suggesting so, HBO has no plans to re-shoot the finale and, frankly he "can't imagine any other network would" either. Bloys also denied that network executives had meddled with the series through copious notes to creators David Benioff and D.B. In response to whether the criticism has changed how HBO will approach its planned prequel to the medieval-style fantasy series, Bloys said, "It has not at all."

Game of Thrones may have scored Emmy acting nominations for 10 of its stars, but three of them weren't submitted for consideration by HBO. Sorry, Game of Thrones fans -- but your petition for HBO to remake the final season is not going to change the network's minds. When ET pressed Bloys to reveal how the GoT backlash will be affecting the network's upcoming prequel series, the executive was quick to clarify that "[the backlash] has not" changed anything in their approach. There are currently three Game of Thrones prequel projects in the works at HBO -- two in development and one pilot starring Naomi Watts, which just wrapped filming this summer in Belfast, Ireland. Plans for the three potential prequel series will be focusing on characters from other areas of author George R.R. Part of it is, I do want this show -- this Game of Thrones, Dan and David's show -- to be its own thing.

The cast of "Game of Thrones" now has their eyes on some Emmys -- 32 to be exact. The HBO drama walked away with double-digit Emmy nominations on Tuesday, setting a new record for most nominations earned in a single year by any drama series. This year's nominations included one for best drama and a slew of individual nominations for cast members including Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Gwendoline Christie. To date, the fantasy series has won 47 Emmys and been nominated 161 times, including this year's nominations. The "Game of Thrones" series finale aired in May, to mixed reviews.

Game of Thrones is going out on top. On Tuesday, the Television Academy announced the nominees for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards with the HBO series earning a total of 32, including Outstanding Drama Series, for its eighth and final season. While the series has been rewarded with 47 wins over the course of the series -- the most for any scripted drama -- the final season was met with fan backlash and mixed reviews. Last season, Game of Thrones garnered 22 nominations, including seven for the top acting, writing and directing prizes as well as Outstanding Drama Series. In total, the series has received 128 nominations and remains the most nominated and most awarded drama series in the history of the Emmys.

New series can bring freshness to the awards, even if "The Kominsky Method" brings old pros Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin into play. Wild cards include NBC's quirky "The Good Place," Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Amazon import "Fleabag," and Netflix's "GLOW" and "Russian Doll." In that respect, if the 2019 Emmys feel messier and more disjointed than usual, they might just be a teaser of what's to come. The main Emmy telecast will be held Sept. 22 and televised live by Fox.

(CNN) - Nearly two months after the "Game of Thrones" series finale, some fans still are not quite over the way it ended. Among them, a federal appeals court judge who referenced his displeasure with the final season to illustrate a point in a recent case. "We will not render Troice meaningless the way that 'Game of Thrones' rendered the entire Night King storyline meaningless in its final season," Owens wrote, referring to the (Spoiler alert!) Despite his seeming invincibility, the Night King was easily taken down by the show's beloved Arya Stark in a way that some fans criticized. Some fans even started a Change.org petition prior to the series finale demanding HBO re-make the final season.

New species of bee fly named after 'Game of Thrones' characterCANBERRA, Australia - Australian scientists have the thrilling task of naming different species of animals that are found, and this year a species of bee fly was named after a character from "Game of Thrones." The fly is just one of 230 species that the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Australia has named so far this year. All names have to have a combination of a genus name, which comes first, and a species name. "Xuankun Li, who named the bee fly Paramonovius nightking, is a PhD student at CSIRO and a huge fan of 'Game of Thrones,' proving that inspiration for new species names can come from anywhere," entomologist Dr. Bryan Lessard said in a statement. Other newly named species include a cusk eel named Barathronus algrahami, after fish collection manager Al Graham, and a tiny soldier fly from Judbarra National Park, Northern Territory, named Prosopochrysa lemannae, in honour of insect technician Cate Lemann.

It looks like fans hoping to see the cast of Game of Thrones together one last time will get their chance! Next month at Comic-Con 2019 in San Diego, California, attendees will be able to see several members of the mega-hit shows cast for a special panel looking back at the show.
