Beathard on Wednesday afternoon, adding a potential backup quarterback to the mix and signaling that the end is likely near for at least one of team’s last two quarterback draft picks. Beathard spent all four seasons with San Francisco after being taken in the third round of the 2017 draft. So, what does that mean for the Jaguars quarterback room? But the addition of a fifth-year player in Beathard is a clear signal that changes are coming in the quarterback room at some point.

Read full article: Jaguars embarrassed by Ravens, but take lead in Trevor Lawrence sweepstakesThe Jaguars tied the record for the longest losing streak in franchise history, dropping their 13th straight game with a 40-14 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. The Jaguars (1-13) return home next week with the Chicago Bears visiting TIAA Bank Field and a dubious streak on the horizon. Jackson went to the bench after throwing his third touchdown pass of the game early in the fourth quarter and the Ravens up 40-7. Outside of Jackson’s pick on his first drive — which wound up ultimately benefitting the Ravens — Baltimore was seldom challenged. Robinson rushed for 35 yards on 16 carries and left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
Soaring Ravens can’t afford letdown against lowly Jaguars
Read full article: Soaring Ravens can’t afford letdown against lowly JaguarsThe Ravens would love to savor the memory of Lamar Jackson coming off the bench to throw a pivotal fourth-down touchdown pass before setting up Justin Tucker for a 55-yard winning field goal. So if the Ravens experience a letdown Sunday against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12), then Jackson's heroics in that epic 47-42 win over the Browns could turn out to be meaningless. “These are professional players, and they understand that to make the last win matter, you have to win the next one," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “I don’t know if it’s hitting their stride or just really executing on a real high level, both in the run game and in the pass game," coach Doug Marrone said of Baltimore. Rookie Jake Luton started three games while Minshew was out with a thumb injury and Mike Glennon started the following three games.

Read full article: Jaguars look to get season turned around when Lions come to townJacksonville (1-4) hosts the Lions (1-3) Sunday at TIAA Bank Field in an effort to halt an early season slide. Effort isn’t something that any stat can measure but it is enough to give the Jaguars hope that they can turn this season around. Coach Doug Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell both cited the team’s youth as a reason for optimism heading into the season. The Jaguars are planning to stay the course and believe that the issues all come down to execution. I think it just comes down to execution.”Sunday’s game against the Lions will give this young Jaguars team another chance to show they can execute out on the football field.
Jaguars keep sliding, lose 4th straight game

The Jaguars dropped into the AFC South cellar on Sunday, losing a game to a winless team for the third consecutive week in a 30-14 loss to the Texans. Nothing that a game against the Jaguars can’t cure. Jacksonville (1-4) has now lost four consecutive games, the final three of those (Dolphins, Bengals and Texans) coming to teams who entered the game winless. With Josh Lambo on injured reserve (hip), the Jaguars have tried Brandon Wright, Hauschka, Aldrick Rosas and Jon Brown.
Mark Brunell: More of the same in another forgettable loss
Read full article: Mark Brunell: More of the same in another forgettable lossJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another bad loss and more of the same in how it looked. Asking a young offense to go up and down the field and swap touchdown for touchdown isn’t fair. But now, he’s four games into his NFL career and he’s been sacked 14 times in three games. This offense is still young and evolving and Gardner Minshew II isn’t quite there yet as a fully developed quarterback. The past two week’s he’s been jumpy in the pocket and not really settled back there.

Bullied, banged up physically and not even competitive in spots, the Jaguars left Cincinnati with a 33-25 loss and momentum quickly careening in the wrong direction. That such a statement was delivered by the Bengals of all teams shows just how much work lies ahead for Jacksonville. The Jaguars visit the Texans (0-4) next week with sole possession of the cellar in the division at stake. After a woeful start to the second half (the Bengals outscored Jacksonville 20-3 in the first 22 minutes after the break) Jacksonville made a push.
Mark Brunell: Loss to Titans stings, but showcases potential of Jaguars
Read full article: Mark Brunell: Loss to Titans stings, but showcases potential of JaguarsNo one, myself included, gave the Jaguars a shot to beat Tennessee on the road Sunday. They lost 33-30 in a game that you know the Jaguars probably should have won. But Jacksonville went toe-to-toe with the Titans, a team that played in the AFC championship game last season and gave them everything they could handle. Even after the first quarter when the Jaguars were struggling, Minshew just forgets about the bad plays. I don’t know if you ever really stop Derrick Henry, but they certainly neutralized him (25 carries, 84 yards).

The Jaguars erased a 14-point deficit and tied things with just over seven minutes to play, only to see the Titans (2-0) emerge at the finish. According to ESPN, Minshew is the first quarterback in Jaguars history to throw three touchdown passes in three consecutive games. Much like they did early against the Colts, the Jaguars looked off from the outset against the Titans. Linebacker Myles Jack had a pass breakup on third down on the Titans' go-ahead drive, but was flagged for pass interference.

The Jaguars' rivalry with the Titans has been rather one-sided when the games are played in Nashville. He may need to have a few more this week if the jaguars are going to slow down Titans running back Derrick Henry. The Jaguars split with the Titans last season, winning 20-7 at home on Thursday night football and getting routed 42-20 at Tennessee. Jacksonville is 9-16 all-time on the road against the Titans, with a 2-0 mark against the former Houston Oilers factored in.
Mark Brunell: Rookies shine, Minshew stands out in a great opening week
Read full article: Mark Brunell: Rookies shine, Minshew stands out in a great opening weekWe’ve heard so much about how bad this team is supposed to be and the players hear that, too. Until you get those young players in game action, you just don’t know how they’re going to perform. As young as the Jaguars are and rookies are playing like they did against the Colts, that is very comforting for me going forward. There were three times during the game where I saw a significant change in how Minshew performed compared to last year. Winning in Week 1 doesn’t change my long-term outlook for the Jaguars this season.

Jaguars roster analysis: Young, inexperienced, lacking stars
Read full article: Jaguars roster analysis: Young, inexperienced, lacking starsJACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jaguars set their roster at 53 after making cuts Saturday. One thing is clear, whether you call it a rebuild, blowing up the roster, or a youth movement, this is a very young team, one that needs stars to emerge in 2020. Add to that eight players who were rookies last year, and the Jaguars have 24 players out of 53 who have played one year in the NFL or fewer. Im a firm believer that if you have a young quarterback and in our case, we do have a young quarterback and Gardner Minshew. On a Monday, I would obviously go to the roster, and I would start with the secondary, Brunell said.

Some of the veteran players that the Jaguars have cut ties with just didnt fit what the team wants to do now. So I feel very confidently in everybodys desire to win and thats absolutely not anything that we envision happening. This offseason, the Jaguars traded several veteran players away. But Marrone said if the team is tanking, no one told him because he knows his job is on the line. At the end of the day, if I dont win enough games or do enough with this team, I dont foresee me still being employed.

Four takeaways: Minshew Magic returns, defense surges
Read full article: Four takeaways: Minshew Magic returns, defense surgesHere are my four biggest takeaways from Sunday's game:More Minshew MagicMaybe Gardner Minshew hers the talk about Nick Foles regaining his starting job when Foles is eligible to return to the field next month. Minshew made a couple of fantastic plays, including a 70-yard touchdown connection to Chris Conley where Minshew scrambled away from Jamal Adams' safety blitz and connected with the receiver who was running behind the defense. That's a play that Foles probably doesn't make because Minshew is more mobile than Foles. Doug Marrone doesn't have to decide on the quarterbacks yet, but if Minshew plays like he did Sunday next week in London, the decision is not going to be an easy one. I said when this month started that October would define the pathway for the Jaguars season.
