A Ware County firefighter was charged with DUI manslaughter for a crash in June that killed another firefighter, according to a booking report.

A Georgia State Patrol K-9 officer was killed in the line of duty Friday morning in Clayton County.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – Friday evening troopers with Georgia State Patrol pulled over a car traveling over 100 mph on I-95 in Camden County, according to authorities. The driver then ran to the other side of I-95 into a wooded area. The bloodhound team was called in to assist, and K-9 Radar tracked the man off scent from an article the man left behind. Officers heard the man coughing in the thick bushes, then spotted him swimming through a swamp, authorities said. Deputies followed him into the swamp taking him into custody about 200 yards from the woodline.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – A Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a fiery crash after a high-speed chase that lasted nearly 30 minutes and spanned more than 40 miles in the early morning hours of January 6. Dashcam videos show the vehicle bounced off the guardrail and hit the Camden County Sheriff’s Deputy’s vehicle, which flipped the police vehicle several times. He was arrested, taken to the hospital, and then booked into the Camden County Jail. The Darien Police Department, McIntosh Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, and Camden County Fire Rescue all responded to the crash scene and chase. In Camden County, Larose is charged with two felonies, including being a fugitive from justice and aggravated assault, and three misdemeanors including speeding, reckless driving, and fleeing police.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – All lanes of I-95 from Golden Isle Parkway to Georgia Highway 99 have reopened after a fatal crash this morning. Georgia State Patrol investigators said the crash happened before 5:30 a.m. One person was killed. It’s not clear what caused the crash, but it appeared from the scene that two vehicles were involved in the wreck, including a truck that had been on fire. A crash report is expected to be ready in 3 to 5 business days, according to GSP. All lanes reopened before 10:45 Friday morning.

Troopers pulled over a white Ferrari with the 23-year-old rapper, whose name is Miles McCollum, behind the wheel on Sept. 21, State Patrol said. McCollum was taken to the Atlanta City Jail and charged with reckless driving and speeding, according to the agency. SYLVANIA, Ga. – A Georgia judge has denied bond for a former Georgia State Patrol trooper accused of murder in the August shooting death of a 60-year-old Black man who refused to stop for a broken tail light. Thompson, who is white, briefly chased Julian Lewis on Aug. 7 before forcing Lewis’ car into a ditch and fatally shooting Lewis in the head. “At some point, I heard the engine on the violator’s vehicle revving at a high rate of speed,” Thompson wrote in his report. “I activated the light on my weapon and observed the violator with both hands on the steering wheel. Thompson wrote that he tried to render first aid until paramedics arrived.

ATLANTA, Ga. The Georgia State Patrol and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division will be out during Labor Day weekend reminding motorists to practice safe driving habits. Troopers and Motor Carrier Officers will be on patrol in full force for the upcoming 78-hour Labor Day holiday travel period focusing their attention on speeders, unrestrained occupants, as well as distracted and impaired drivers, said Colonel Gary Vowell, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The Hands-Free Georgia Act prohibits all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving. ALMA, Ga. A box truck rear-ended a school bus that had stopped Wednesday to unload students in rural southeast Georgia, leaving at least six students and the bus driver injured, police said. Authorities said the injured truck driver died later in a hospital. The Georgia State Patrol said the school bus had stopped minutes after 3:30 p.m. on Georgia highway 4 in Bacon County when, a preliminary investigation showed, the Ryder truck struck the back of the bus. The State Patrol added that the bus driver, Jerry Sweat, also was injured and taken to the same hospital. A photograph published online by WSAV showed the yellow school bus with its back end and rear exit door caved in.

WAYCROSS, Ga. – Three inmates and two staff members were injured during unrest at a state prison in Southeast Georgia that began Saturday night, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Eason said he believes if Ware State Prison had more guards, the disturbance “absolutely would not have happened.”“The fear of that was what if you get taken, hostage or beat up. A Ware State inmate was killed two weeks ago in what authorities said was an altercation with another inmate. Department of Corrections data shows 22 inmates and 32 staff members at Ware State Prison have tested positive for the coronavirus. Ware State Prison houses adult male felons and has a total capacity for 1,546, according to information about the facility on the department’s website.

ATLANTA The Georgia State Patrol says fireworks, rocks and graffiti caused extensive damage to its headquarters in Atlanta early Sunday morning. A spokesperson says Department of Public Safety workers put out the fire caused by fireworks, and two employees were treated for smoke inhalation. One of the agency's vehicles parked in front of the building was also damaged. Video showed several dozen people outside and the sound of drums being played in the background. A witness says the demonstration started peacefully but about three or four people appeared to be trying to vandalize the building.

An entire graduating class of the Georgia State Patrol’s Trooper School -- including at least two troopers who were working out of Brunswick -- was implicated in a cheating scandal that resulted in large scale disciplinary actions. Georgia Department of Public Safety Commissioner Col. Mark W. McDonough confirmed 30 troopers were fired Wednesday after being accused of cheating on an online exam for the speed detection operator component of the school’s curriculum. That means the 30 remaining troopers were dropped from the force on Wednesday, according to McDonough. He also said they used two Snapchat groups to facilitate the cheating and get their stories straight as the investigation was ongoing. There are fewer troopers on the patrol and now the agency will have to replace them.

The GSP's tech division, the Georgia Tech Authority, which handles network and serves, is now checking every device in all 52 state patrol post locations across the state to see if more devices are affected. Hamer said the attack is an inconvenience to the troopers and it has a financial impact on the state since it doesn't have access to its systems. The state said Georgia Tech Authority is downloading new protective software on all devices, which are purposely offline until further notice. "This ransomware attack has certainly caused DPS to revert to a more traditional way of dispatching and patrolling.

WOODBINE, Ga. - A crash Thursday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Camden County appearing to involve two tractor-trailers backed up the highway for hours. The crash is north of the Woodbine exit, but traffic was backed up to Kingsland. Sky4 aerials showed one semi in two pieces being towed away.
