A 15-year-old Glynn Academy student is facing charges after an unloaded gun was discovered in a school bathroom, according to a news release Tuesday from the school district. The Glynn County Schools police chief on Sunday learned that a child spotted what appeared to be a weapon in a student’s backpack sometime during prior week, the district said. One of those weapons -- an unloaded .25 caliber pistol -- was found hidden under a bathroom sink at the school on President’s Day, when school was not in session. Investigators did not find any ammunition in the building or in the surrounding area. Glynn County Schools said the student was suspended and that the teen faces a “number of charges” filed by Glynn County School Police.

FOLKSTON, Ga. At first blush, it appeared to be just another high school softball game between Glynn Academy and Charlton County High School. But when you looked a little closer, you could see the reminders of the coronavirus pandemic. Players in the dugouts and on the field, as well as the umpires and coaches, were taking precautions. But none of that could dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes on the field playing the first game of the fall season between two local teams. It was clear it also meant something to the parents, many of whom were concerned the season would be wiped out like the spring sports were.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Steve Waters knew that there would be positive tests for coronavirus when high school athletes returned to workouts in Glynn County last month. It was just how about how many athletes would test positive during voluntary workouts for Waters, the district athletic director for Glynn County Schools. The positive tests among high school athletes in Glynn County are a reflection of increased activity in the community as a whole there. Glynn County has seen a handful of its high school athletes at Glynn Academy and Brunswick High test positive for COVID-19 and the schools there have responded accordingly. At Glynn Countys two high schools, there have been a handful of positive tests among athletes who have returned to campus and worked out.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Glynn Academy (2-4, 0-1) and Brunswick High (4-4, 1-1) will kick off what's known as the City Champion at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Glynn County's stadium. Brunswick High is looking to upset the winning streak Glynn Academy has been on, winning the past five years in a row. BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Work has almost wrapped up on a $6 million project to upgrade an historic building at Glynn Academy. Crews have spent a year bringing the 80-plus-year-old Sidney Lanier Building up to date, according to the Brunswick News. Work included upgrading electrical and plumbing systems, replacing windows and adding a fresh coat of paint. Students and faculty returning to school this fall will be greeted by a renovated art room, computer labs and special education facility, among other improvements made to the aging building, according to the newspaper's report. The facility will reportedly stay closed for the upcoming school year while it receives a $7 million facelift of its own.
