Some of the best athletes and coaches in Florida sports history were inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday at the Florida Theatre.

LeRoy Butler, Greg Coleman and Tom Coughlin were all announced as inductees for the Class of 2023 event, part of an eight-person group that will be enshrined at the Florida Theatre on Nov. 8.

Moving to UNF for the first time, the Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field Meet readies for a new chapter.

Calling it a tough and emotional decision but the right one for right now, Greg Coleman said the decision to move the area’s most iconic track and field meet from Raines High School to UNF was necessary to take it to the next level and beyond.

One of the area’s most prestigious amateur events heads back to Raines High School on Saturday for the 57th installment of the Bob Hayes Invitational track and field meet. Once billed as the largest one-day track meet in the country, the event is still coming out of the shadow of the pandemic and likely to bring between 1,500 to 1,700 athletes to Raines

James Day, a longtime coach at Raines and one of the founders of the prestigious Bob Hayes Invitational track and field meet, died unexpectedly on Saturday night.
