A bill that emerged after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting in Parkland may see some changes. In 2018, the state increased the age limit to 21 for purchasing a rifle or long gun. However, the Florida House recently approved a bill to lower the age back to 18.

Senator Randy Fine has introduced a bill for the 2025 Florida legislative session that would permit individuals under 21 to purchase firearms. Senate Bill 94, aims to repeal a law that currently prohibits licensed firearms dealers from selling or transferring firearms to those younger than 21.

Local law enforcement leaders are weighing-in after Republican state lawmakers announced a push to eliminate the permit requirement for carrying a concealed weapon in public.

Calling the proposal an effort to “remove the government permission slip,” House Speaker Paul Renner on Monday announced legislation that would allow people to carry concealed weapons without licenses.

There is a push around the state for what some groups are calling common sense gun safety measures.  The group, Moms Demand Action, held events around the state, including here in Jacksonville. They’re asking the Florida legislature to reject legislation they say would save lives, but one gun rights proponent disagrees.
