CNNTEHRAN - The UK-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero has left Iran, where it has been detained since July 19, and is heading for international waters. The ship sailed from Bandar Abbas port at 9 a.m. local time on Friday, Iran's state-run news agency IRNA reported. The company operating the ship, Stena Bulk, also confirmed the tanker's release. Twenty-three crew members -- none of them British -- were on board. Earlier this month, seven Indian crew members aboard the tanker were released.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appeared to signal Wednesday that his country might be willing to release the vessel in exchange for the UK's release of a detained Iranian tanker. UK authorities alleged the tanker was attempting to transport oil to Syria, a violation of EU sanctions. (CNN) - Iran will begin enriching uranium at a higher level than what is allowed under the 2015 nuclear deal within days, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday. Under the 2015 deal, Iran agreed to slash its stockpile of enriched uranium by 90%, and cap uranium enrichment at 3.67%. He has also vowed to revive work on the Arak heavy-water reactor, which had been suspended under the nuclear deal. He urged the Americans and the Europeans to "go back to their commitments in the nuclear deal." Zarif added that Iran took steps to exceed uranium caps 60 days after Trump pulled out of the deal.

The newly announced sanctions mean "closing [the] channel of diplomacy forever," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said in a tweet Tuesday, reported Iranian state-run television Press TV. Accusing the Trump administration of mental disability, Rouhani also said Tuesday that those "in charge of the White House are feeling frustrated" by the state of play in the region, reported the semi-official Tasnim news agency. "You say you really want to hold talks with us," he said during a press conference Tuesday, state-run Press TV reported. The Iranian President added, "If you really wanted negotiations, we would hold talks with you."
