Due to the deadly crash, all southbound lanes of I-295 at Town Center Parkway for more than four hours, causing heavy delays for morning commuters. But they say also this is 3 in the morning and that needs to be taken into account.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – He described it as a “ball of sparks.”A Jacksonville City Council member is among the witnesses to a crash over the weekend on the Dames Point Bridge that sent a car careening off the bridge. It ended in a dramatic rescue with firefighters pulling the car’s driver to safety from the St. Johns River. For District 2 City Councilman Al Ferraro and his wife, Saturday night was not another trip. “Before we got to the bridge, she was saying, how many people have fallen off the bridge?” he recalled. Ad“We just saw what looks like a ball of sparks going off to the side,” Ferraro said.

A car that went off the Dames Point Bridge Saturday night was pulled out of the river Sunday morning. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A car was pulled out of the St. Johns River Sunday morning after the vehicle went over the side of the concrete wall of the Dames Point Bridge following a crash Saturday night with another car in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle that went over the side was able to exit his vehicle and had only minor injuries. All southbound lanes on I-295 were closed for an hour while the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department got the driver out of the water and police cleared the scene. The next morning, the vehicle that went off the side of the bridge was pulled from the water.

One person had to be extricated from a vehicle following a car crash on Normandy Blvd, near I-295. Eastbound traffic on Normandy Blvd. remained at a standstill for more than an hour as fire crews rescued one person trapped in one of the vehicles involved. JFRD says one person was extricated from a vehicle at 6:29 p.m. All lanes on Normandy Blvd are open once again.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 39-year-old man is fighting for his life after a crash on I-295 near Blanding Boulevard Sunday evening. The man was driving a motorcycle on the northbound side of I-295 when the bike collided with a trailer that was being pulled by a pick-up truck. The Florida Highway Patrol crash report shows he was wearing a helmet and was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Two 24-year-old men in the pick-up truck were not injured. The initial FHP report did not say if the trailer had reflector lights.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man is dead and another was hospitalized after a shooting Friday night that Jacksonville police said stemmed from an argument at an intersection on the Westside. He said that at about 8:30 p.m., a patrol officer made contact with the black car near Wilson Boulevard and I-295. “We are possibly looking for an outstanding white vehicle. “All we do know is that the black car was shot,” he said. “We do not know, we cannot say that there was anybody inside the car shooting back.”The victims in the shooting were not identified.

FHP says the right and center lanes are both blocked. Drivers should consider avoiding the area if possible. Police say at least one person was injured in this incident.

Troopers said a disabled vehicle was in the center lane of the interstate around 2 a.m. The passenger of the disabled car and the good Samaritan both died at the scene, according to the accident report. Both the driver of the disabled vehicle that was being pushed and the driver of the car that struck it, sustained minor injuries. FHP traffic homicide is continuing to investigate the crash. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson urged caution when your car breaks down on the highway or you spot a disabled vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating three separate fatal crashes in Duval County in just two hours. The first crash happened around 10 Thursday night when a car hit a pedestrian at the Dunn Avenue entrance ramp on I-295 northbound. The crash report shows a 62-year-old man was walking across State Road 134 when a car traveling eastbound on State Road 134 hit him. The crash report shows both vehicles were traveling eastbound on State road 134 veering onto US-17. Names of the drivers involved in the crashes have been withheld by Florida Highway Patrol, as is standard procedure.

FHP’s crash report shows a 78-year-old man was killed after he was hit by an approaching sedan. The man was walking in the center of the right lane on the entrance ramp. He died on the scene.
