The JAX USL soccer franchise is making a major announcement this afternoon.

Another well-known Jacksonville sports figure will be part of the group bringing USL professional soccer to Northeast Florida in the coming years.

Slowly, steadily and passionately, the vision of the JAX USL soccer is coming together. The slow and steady, the waiting game, is the tough part. Jacksonville’s entries into the United Soccer League is still years off, with the men’s and women’s teams pegged to begin in 2025-26. The passion is easy to spot.

Team officials say the name and brand should be revealed in the coming months.

By a unanimous 16-0 vote in the Jacksonville city council, the Jacksonville Armada have taken another step toward building a soccer stadium near the sports complex.

Although the team doesn't have a name or stadium yet and the games aren't scheduled to begin until 2025, JAX USL, the group bringing a USL Championship soccer team and women's professional team to town have begun building their front office by hiring former Jacksonville University men's soccer coach Mauricio Ruiz.

Pro soccer is scheduled to return to Northeast Florida in two years when the USL men's and women's teams begin playing. It will be the first time for a pro women's team in town. The club continued a listening tour at local breweries where they said they are closing in on a site for their new stadium.
