Beginning March 19, the Silver flights will operate on Mondays and Fridays on a 47-seat ATR 42 aircraft. Silver will depart JAX around 9:35 a.m. and arrive at GSP about 11:10 a.m., while flights will depart GSP about 11:50 a.m. and arrive at JAX around 1:25 p.m.“We welcome Silver’s continued growth in Northeast Florida,” JAA CEO Mark VanLoh said. “As their route map expands at JAX, it offers an opportunity to connect our community to other markets in Florida and the Southeast.”Silver recently returned to Jacksonville in December after a three-year absence and also offers nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. Construction is set to begin next fall and be completed around January 2024, according to a JAA release. “Since taking ownership from the Navy, the Authority developed Cecil into one of the preeminent airports for aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul in the United States,” Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh said. It’s also the site of a flight control repair center where, among other things, Boeing has converted F/A-18 Super Hornets into aircraft for the Navy’s elite Blue Angels squadron. “This investment in facility improvements supports our ability to deliver on current and future defense services work at the Cecil Field site and aligns with Boeing’s infrastructure optimization efforts,” said Warren Helm, Boeing Cecil Field site leader.

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority announced that Aevum was awarded a $4.9 million contract from the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center to launch small, autonomous defense satellites from the spaceport. The Agile Small Launch Operational Normalizer 45 space lift mission, which marks the Alabama-based company's first Air Force mission, will help support the Department of Defense's Space Test program. "This is exciting news for Cecil Spaceport that we believe validates Jacksonville's position as an emerging player in the space industry," JAA CEO Mark Van Loh said in a statement.
