Jacques Battiste, the police chief in Glynn County, is stepping down from his position, according to a report Monday by The Brunswick News, which cited a news release.

Two people were shot, one fatally, on Sunday in Glynn County, authorities said.

Former FBI agent, Jacques Battiste, will lead the Glynn County Police Department after some Georgia lawmakers tried unsuccessfully to abolish it last year.

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners on Thursday approved Jacques Battiste at the county’s new chief of police, according to a news release.

The department in question is the same police agency that responded to the Ahmaud Arbery shooting. It came under criticism after it did not make an arrest nor did it ask for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to take over the investigation after realizing one of the accused, Gregory McMichael, was a former police officer within the same department.
