According to News4Jax’s news partner the Jax Daily Record, the city issued the permit Feb. 6 for Ash Construction LLC to begin remodeling the site. The plans include interior demolition and storefront work, and the plans show that Ash Properties wants to expand the building. Ash Properties paid $4.38 million for the building back in December 2015. The Kmart site closed in 2016 but it continued to lease the property until its parent company Sears Holdings Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2018.

Khan wants to replace Metropolitan Park with a hotel and mixed-use property and proposed the Shipyards property as a replacement for the park. But all hope for the mixed-use development is not lost. Under the current proposal, Khan would build a Four Seasons hotel and a mixed-use development, which would include a destination site medical facility, where the park sits along the Northbank. New data released Monday by the Small Business Administration shows about 14,000 Jacksonville-based companies received federal loans through the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP. Data shows 12,000 businesses received loans of less than $150,000, but several dozen were granted millions. The businesses that received $5-10 million includes Nextran Corp., Physicians Group Services, Stein Mart Inc., Vesta Property Services Inc, and others. In the $2-5 million dollar range include Celebration Church of Jacksonville, Farah and Farah, The Bolles School, Morgan and Morgan, and the Jacksonville Zoological Society. Dozens of restaurants were granted loans in the $150,000-$1 million range including, Firehouse Restaurant Group, Cowford Chophouse, Bonos of America, and Black Sheep.
