JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the body of a teenager was found floating Tuesday evening in a retention pond along Kernan Boulevard, not far from UNF Alumni Hall. Goldfein, with the Sheriff’s Office, the body is believed to be of a 17-year-old male. He could not release the teen’s name, but confirmed the teen was not a student at the University of North Florida. “The cause of death is being listed as undetermined at this time. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office were called to a business Friday afternoon to investigate a reported felony. Police were called to a collision center on Beach Boulevard just east of Kernan Boulevard. Circumstances surrounding the investigation were not immediately clear, but the felony was not said to be a violent crime. The Sheriffs Office said officers found a suspect and determined his condition required medical treatment. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called, and the man was taken to a hospital where he later died, investigators said.

According to the Sheriffs Office, all three of the victims were men, and they were shot in a residential unit. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Driving along J. Turner Butler Boulevard to Kernan Boulevard, depending on the time of day, can be a nightmare for commuters. But a new traffic light at the JTB and Kernan intersection is expected to help. Before the light was installed, each driver had to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, which caused major backups. The new improvements mark a milestone in an even bigger road project: the express lanes project of I-295 that will extend from State Road 9B to just north of JTB. Major milestones like this interchange improvement are really an important piece of the broader project, Ray said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A construction worker installing traffic signals Friday morning on North Kernan Boulevard in East Arlington was critically injured when a boom truck he was in hit a high power transmission line, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The man operating the crane was doing electrical work for a subcontractor working on a Jacksonville Transportation Authority, tried to get off the truck but was shocked. Residents in the area heard what sounded like an explosion, smelled something burning and came outside to see what was happening. Sky4 aerials just before noon showed rescue personnel, Jacksonville police and a JEA crew were at the intersection of Kernan and Running River Road, which is north of Atlantic Boulevard. A previous News4Jax report on the JTA Mobility Works project said a 3-mile stretch of Kernan Boulevard between Atlantic Boulevard and McCormick Road was being widened, with new traffic lights, sidewalks and a bicycle path added.
