(CNN) - When the Terminator warned "I'll be back" 35 years ago, no one could have foreseen how true that catchphrase would become. Even so, "Terminator: Dark Fate" represents a welcome return to the its origins, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprising their roles, adding nostalgia and mythological heft that separates it from everything that has followed "Judgment Day." The intent was to position "Dark Fate" as a direct sequel to the first two films, ignoring the three additional sequels (and an actually pretty good Fox TV series) that rolled off the assembly line in between. "Dark Fate" earns its favorable judgment by cleverly and effectively adding to that legacy. "Terminator: Dark Fate" premieres Nov. 1 in the US.

After the success of the flick, Hamilton romantically connected with Cameron and quickly became pregnant with their daughter, Josephine. The end of that relationship, Hamilton says, left her "completely devastated for years." "You know, it was basically a phone call from James Cameron," she said. "I had a true village of experts trying to get the most out of this body," Hamilton tells The Times.

ET's Ash Crossan spoke with the 62-year-old action heroine at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, following her appearance in the legendary Hall H for the Terminator: Dark Fate panel. Now, with Terminator: Dark Fate, the pair are coming back together, with Hamilton reprising her role as Connor, while Schwarzenegger's role is still shrouded in mystery. "I think we really brought it down back to its basic form [in Dark Fate], with fewer characters, a cleaner story, and then all the souped up special effects." Hamilton, Schwarzenegger and the entire cast will likely have plenty of time to bask in the limelight when the hotly anticipated Terminator: Dark Fate bursts into theaters Nov. 1.
