Tafara Williams, 20, spoke to reporters during a Zoom call from her hospital bed as she described the Oct. 20 shooting in Waukegan that killed 19-year-old Marcellis Stinnette. She said a white officer pulled up and started to question her, telling Stinnette that she knew him from when he was in jail. Three days ago, Williams told protesters in a telephone call from her hospital bed that she would continue to fight for justice on Stinnette’s behalf. Police have said the vehicle driven by Williams, with Stinnette in the passenger’s seat, fled a traffic stop conducted by a white officer. On Friday, the police department fired the officer who shot Williams and Stinnette.

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – A suburban Chicago police officer who fatally shot a Black man who was a passenger in a vehicle and wounded the Black female driver has been fired, the department’s officials announced late Friday. Police said that as the second officer approached, the vehicle started moving in reverse and the officer opened fire. The officer who shot the couple is Hispanic and a five-year veteran of the Waukegan Police Department. During a Thursday demonstration, Clyde McLemore, head of the Lake County chapter of Black Lives Matter, called for a federal investigation. Johnson said her daughter told her that Williams and her boyfriend had done nothing to provoke the officer.

Williams’ mother said her daughter asked about Stinnette, but that she did not have the heart to tell her that he was dead. The officer who shot the couple is Hispanic and a five-year veteran of the Waukegan Police Department. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A devastated Jacksonville family is demanding answers after a 19-year-old was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop outside of Chicago. Stinnette attended Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville and had moved to Chicago recently, his family said. Stinnette’s family said they have since heard conflicting stories, including one from a possible witness. This can’t happen to another family,” Banks said. He had no weapon.”Adding to their heartache, Stinnette’s family members said he was still recovering after being severely injured in an August crash.
