A Jacksonville woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of her 2-year-old toddler, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The chief medical examiner in St. Johns County wants to replace the county’s aging Medical Examiner’s Office and is requesting funding from the state.

Residents in Jacksonville’s Brentwood area are not happy after the site of a new Medical Examiner’s Office was rezoned from commercial to public at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Monday night’s meeting got heated when the plans for a liquor store the city is buying as part of this project were announced.

The city of Jacksonville broke ground Monday on a new multi-million-dollar medical examiner’s office.

A car with a body inside was recovered from a retention pond near Palm Harbor Parkway and Cris Lane in Flagler County on Monday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

A common household product is being used to get high, and local doctors warn it’s more harmful than people think. The Medical Examiner’s Office in Jacksonville said it has seen seven cases of overdoses from eutylone in the last 12 months.

Police have not identified the pair but said family has been notified. Investigators taped off the perimeter of the home on North 19th Street, and the street was closed around 9:30 a.m. between Washington and Ocean streets. Police are still investigating the incident but they said they do not believe there is any threat to the community. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene unit and the Medical Examiner’s Office are helping detectives process the scene.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A man's body was discovered Wednesday morning in the San Sebastian River, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife. The St. Augustine Police Department said the body was found in the intercoastal waterway behind Cats Paw Marina just after 8 a.m. They have not released the man's identity but said FWC officials said it did not appear to be related to any boating incidents. CNN Video(CNN) - More arrests are expected in connection with the deaths of a dozen residents at a Florida nursing home, a police spokesman said Tuesday. The investigation into the deaths of 12 people at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills in Hollywood, Florida, remains "ongoing," said Hollywood Police Chief Chris O'Brien. "The Hollywood Police Department remains diligent in investigating all aspects of this case and additional arrests are anticipated," O'Brien said. Jorge Carballo, the facility administrator, and Sergo Colin, night shift nursing supervisor, were each charged with 12 counts of aggravated manslaughter. David Frankel, a lawyer Colin, emphasized at a Monday news conference that the nursing home staff had reached out for assistance.

MAYPORT, Fla. – The deaths of a father and son who died when their small plane crashed in the ocean near Mayport were caused by blunt impact trauma, according to the autopsy report from the Medical Examiner's Office. The occupants aboard the missing plane were identified as Peter Renzulli, 51, of Bridgewater, and his 18-year-old son, Daniel. It was determined the plane crash was accidental. The single-engine plane crashed Dec. 20 off the coast of Little Talbot Island, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. News4Jax aviation expert Ed Booth believes the pilot ignored weather reports on the day of the crash, and said the crash could have been prevented.

These analogues seen earlier this year in the Ohio Valley and the Medical Examiner's Office reports seeing more bodies in Jacksonville with lethal combinations of fentanyl analogues. Narcan is widely used to reverse on opioid overdose but, the fentanyl analogues are so strong, Narcan often doesn’t work, and overdose calls to 911 in Jacksonville have doubled every year for three years. Of opioid deaths in the state last year, 965 of those people had used fentanyl analogs. Occurrences of fentanyl increased by 80 percent, and deaths caused by fentanyl skyrocketed by 97 percent. Duval County is the only county where the per capita number of fentanyl deaths exceeded 25 per 100,000 residents.
