JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed early Thursday morning in a crash on Merrill Road near Hartsfield Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. According to police the man was in a Nissan headed west on Merrill when the Nissan “made an abrupt left turn” in front of a Jeep that was headed east on Merrill. The man in the passenger side of the Nissan was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. A woman driving the Nissan was treated for minor injuries at the hospital, police said. Merrill Road was temporarily closed at Hartsfield and Dames Point Crossing.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FBI and investigators with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday raided a pharmacy in Jacksonville’s Arlington neighborhood. Agents spent several hours inside Cure Pharmacy on Merrill Road and could be seen wheeling boxes out of the business, which is in a shopping center with several other businesses. “In keeping with standard law enforcement practice, I am able to provide no further information on this operation. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced that a father and son have been arrested on charges related to a deadly shooting that occurred in Arlington back in January. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an officer on Jan. 15 witnessed a shooting outside at a shopping center on Merrill Road. On Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said Hakeem Robinson, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder. In addition, court records show he was later arrested in the shooting on Merrill Road and charged with second-degree murder and attempting to elude law enforcement. Citing police activity assisting another agency, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office closed Cesery Boulevard Thursday afternoon between Redberry Lane and Maple Leaf Drive North, a few blocks south of Merrill Road. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Church’s Chicken was shut down for two days after a failing visit from the health inspector. The Church’s Chicken at 6037 Merrill Road is open again, but it took four tries to finally get it right. At the inspector’s initial visit on August 11, Church’s Chicken was cited with 11 violations. Inspectors cited the fast-food chain location for leaving the dumpster lid open, missing a ceiling tile, and a build-up of food crumbs and residue on equipment handles among others. On the fourth attempt, Church’s Chicken was allowed to reopen.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed and another man was injured in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning on Stardust Court, just south of Merrill Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. Police were called around 1:15 a.m. to the scene at an apartment complex near the Lake Lucina neighborhood of Arlington, where officers found a man in his 20s dead from a gunshot wound. Another man, also in his 20s, was transported to a hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Some people have been out here for 10 years, and it has never happened before,” said Cedric Sessions, the maintenance manager at the Stardust apartment complex. I hope they catch who did it.”The Sheriff’s Office is interviewing witnesses and looking for surveillance video related to the shooting.

A school bus was involved in a crash during Friday mornings rainy commute. First responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were called to the accident on Merrill Road and Hartsfield Road around 7 a.m. According to JFRD, kids were on board when the school bus collided with an SUV.
