The reason? She had ingested an 18″ sock or stocking, causing a significant blockage in her stomach. Remarkably, she endured two weeks without eating before her owner sought veterinary assistance.Unfortunately, the financial burden of the necessary veterinary treatment led to her return to the shelter.Fortunately, she underwent emergency surgery and is currently recuperating. Once she regains her strength and fully heals, she will be ready for adoption.

The only treatment for human exposure to rabies is rabies specific immune globulin and rabies immunization. From January to June, there have been two animals reported in Duval County with rabies and this marks the second animal in Nassau County. Nassau Humane Society is the animal control agency for the City of Fernandina Beach, and Nassau County Animal Services is the agency for all other parts of the county.
