The Duval County School Board on Monday night voted in favor of a critical new plan designed to help students and parents in case of a mass casualty event on a school’s campus.

Flagler County officials are urging residents to take time this weekend for storm preparations.

In a brief Tuesday morning meeting, the board of the Clay County School District unanimously approves its plan for reopening schools for the 2021-2022 academic year, which does not include a mask requirement.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you think gas prices are high now, get ready. Mayor Lenny Curry is proposing that Duval County double the local gas tax from 6 to 12 cents per gallon to fund major transportation and other infrastructure improvements. That income would be split between the city and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and used for both road and other projects, including paying for septic tank replacement and other unfunded city projects. “This an opportunity to fund them.”The Jacksonville Transportation Authority, which currently receives most of the local gas tax revenue, would get half of the increase. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The state Public Service Commission on Tuesday approved a plan by Florida Power & Light to speed up refunds of deposits for tens of thousands of customers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. FPL announced the plan last month as part of steps that also included providing bill credits of up to $200 to some residential and small-business customers. FPL said in its filing that the move to speed up refunds of deposits would return $9 million to $11 million to 50,000 to 60,000 residential customers. Ordinarily, deposits are refunded after 23 months to customers with good payment records. The plan is a one-time move that will shorten the period to 12 months.

WELLINGTON Qantas plans to cut at least 6,000 jobs and keep 15,000 more workers on extended furloughs as Australia's largest airline tries to survive the coronavirus pandemic. Qantas announced a plan Thursday to reduce costs by billions of dollars and raise fresh capital. The plan includes grounding 100 planes for a year or more and immediately retiring its six remaining Boeing 747 planes. Chief Executive Alan Joyce said the airline has to become smaller as it braces for several years of much lower revenues. This crisis has still hit us very, very hard and the impact will be felt for a long time," Joyce said.

BANGKOK Thailands flag carrier Thai Airways International will file a plan for restructuring its business with the Central Bankruptcy Court, a government spokeswoman said Monday. Narumon Pinyosinwat said the plan submitted by the State Enterprise Policy Office to salvage the airline will be submitted Tuesday to for Cabinet approval. The airline initially sought a 54 billion baht ($1.7 billion) bailout loan from the government. Thai Airways logged losses of 12 billion baht ($374.3 million) in 2019, 11.6 billion baht ($361.9 million) in 2018 and 2.11 billion baht ($65.8 million) in 2017. Thai media reports say it is carrying a debt burden of almost 300 billion baht ($9.4 billion).
