After falling short last year, the team rallied to eek out a spot in this year’s regional competition. With many new faces the team came together to focus on a project about conserving energy and using it in a more efficient way. They also have the goal of educating people of all ages, but they are definitely hoping their peers take note to ensure the earth’s sustainability for their generation.

Douglas Anderson follows Fletcher High School and Providence School, which both reopened this week after similar surges in cases. Students with the I’m A Star Foundation participated in a live virtual debate about reopening schools amidst a pandemic. Among the participants, there were both students who supported reopening and those who were against it. This number could fill the entire city of Rocky Mount and the city of Pinellas Park, Florida,” student Tiffany Powell said.

According to an email from school leaders, two juniors from the school tested positive. “All students who have interacted with these two students over the weekend or in class on Monday have been contacted, sent home, and asked to quarantine,” according to the email. The school said it is not canceling any extra-curricular activities. Fletcher High School and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts both made the decision in the last week to temporarily close their campuses due to an increase in the number of reported COVID-19 cases.

But now accounts boasting White at ____ are popping up, too. One account labeled White at Providence, which linked back to the Providence School of Jacksonville website, posted derogatory messages. Providence on Tuesday issued the following response:Providence School Administration has recently become aware of an offensive social media account and social media posts that are not affiliated with Providence School. If its a person affiliated with Providence, that person will be dealt with, as well.There is also a Black at Providence social media account.

Providence School of Jacksonville started a Bahamas Recovery Project two weeks ago to fill a 53-foot semi-trailer with supplies to send to the devastated islands. Provided by Providence SchoolAfter two weeks the truck was stuffed with generators, tarps, medical items, cleaning supplies, diapers, food, water and more. EMS Shipping will help deliver the supplies from South Florida to the Bahamas.
