According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jivonni Duane Sturgis is charged with one count of murder. Police were called to the scene off Ricker Road near the intersection of Melvin Road around 9 p.m. July 24. According to a JSO spokesman, a fight had broken out and Sturgis pulled a gun and fired multiple shots. That man, later identified as a 29-year-old, died from his injuries the following day in a hospital, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office were sent to investigate two shootings in different parts of town Friday night. The first scene was on Ricker Road near the intersection of Melvin Road on Jacksonvilles Westside. The other scene was on Harts Road, just north of Dunn Avenue on the Northside. As of Thursday, News4Jax records show there had been 56 shootings reported in Jacksonville during the month of July. News4Jax is working to obtain information from police.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 43-year-old man, was also thrown off and suffered life-threatening injuries. The front of the motorcycle hit the right side of the Honda and both riders were thrown from the bike. They were rushed to Orange Park Medical Center where the woman died from her injuries. The motorcycle driver is still listed in critical condition.

Investigators said James Kirk, 31, was paralyzed in his lower body after a gunfight with a property owner on Ricker Road when a bullet got lodged in his spine. In addition to attempted murder, Kirk is also charged with armed burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigators said the woman was told to stay put, and the property owner went toward the house, gun in hand. After the shots were fired, investigators said, the woman dragged the man into the truck and sped off.

That’s when both men started shooting at each other before the suspect fled in a white pickup truck. Investigators said foul play is suspected in the death of the woman, who neighbors said was in her mid-70s. A K-9 unit could be seen on Shelby Lane, off Schindler Drive, about 3 miles away from the apartment complex.
