JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One of the fastest-growing high school sports in the country will be on full display this week. Lacrosse takes center stage at Episcopal beginning Thursday evening with the first two of eight games in the High School 9:12โฒs Rivalry on the River event. High school games were added to that schedule eventually, giving local programs a big stage to play on. โYouโre right, this is all high school and all North Florida high school, whereas Moeโs was all teams from all around the state. AdIn the six-year period from 2013-18, the NFHS reported a substantial increase in high school lacrosse teams across the country.
High School 9:12 bringing lacrosse to the forefront with 16-team tournament

Showers making their way inland, wet weather continues this week
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Showers pushing onshore throughout the day made for a damp Tuesday. Wednesday looks wet as well, with 60% chances for you to see passing showers, especially during the afternoon. Friday and Saturday the bigger chances for showers return, with 50% chances to see the rain. Onshore winds also continue, but they relax a bit, to the 10 mph range. Wednesday looks similar, waking up in the low 70s, warming up into the low 80s, mostly cloudy and breezy, with showers making their way onshore. Expect mostly sunny skies and only a 20% chance for showers.
Winds of change pick up tonight, windy and cool weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ After a warm, sunny, lovely Friday, the winds of change blow tonight. A dry cold front will push through overnight, making for tumbling temperatures down into the chilly low 60s overnight. It will be very windy, with northeasterly winds between 15-20 mph and gusts of up to 30 mph. Sunday starts off in the cool mid 60s and warms up into the mild upper 70s and low 80s. Northeasterly winds will be between 10-15 mph each day and will bring an isolated coastal shower or two onshore.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Two Riverside restaurants temporarily closed this weekend over coronavirus concerns. Black Sheep posted Saturday on social media that one of its team members has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Black Sheep said it was temporarily closed, effective immediately. โIn accordance with CDC guidelines, Black Sheep will be empty for over 24 hours, after which we will conduct a deep clean and sanitize the entire building before opening back up next week,โ Black Sheep said in the post. Our hearts go out to our neighboring bars and restaurants during this second wave of business closings and we are hopeful that this yearโs challenges are almost at an end.

Riverkeeper: Development, pollution a 'double whammy' for St. Johns River
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The St. Johns Riverkeeper is calling on the community to protect the St. Johns River after a recent report found the water quality is getting worse. The annual River Report is more than 300 pages and takes a comprehensive and detailed look at the condition of the Lower St. Johns River Basin. St. Johns Riverkeeper Lisa Rinaman said that after looking at the report, her biggest concern is the increase in pollution. READ: 2019 River Report on Lower St. Johns River BasinWere seeing not only the real impact of climate change and sea-level rise but also an increase in pollution, which is a recipe for disaster," Rinaman warned. The annual River Report found not only an increase in pollution but also in non-native animals and plants.
