JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision on Interstate 10 eastbound near Roosevelt Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said a black SUV was travelling east in the westbound lanes. A white Volkswagen was traveling eastbound when they both collided shortly after 8:30 p.m. The FHP did not release their names, but said next of kin had been notified. News4Jax followed up with FHP to ask how the vehicles collided head-on.

Troopers said a 2008 Scion TC was headed south on U.S. 17 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered over the concrete median, entering the northbound lanes. The FHP said that's where the Scion TC hit a northbound 1996 Ford SUV head-on, causing both vehicles to overturn and block the northbound lanes for several hours. Troopers said the 55-year-old man driving the Ford SUV died at the scene, while the Scion driver, identified as Royce Tovar, 21, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries. All northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard were closed for several hours due to the crash but have since reopened.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man who survived a fiery crash on I-295 said the car he was riding in spun across the highway and was pinned against a guardrail before a tractor-trailer burst into flames. Boyette told News4Jax the crash was the result of another car that forced his mother, who was driving their car, to take evasive action. The crash, which occurred Monday on I-295 at Roosevelt Boulevard, blocked lanes of the highway for hours. Boyette said his mother was forced into the same lane as the tractor-trailer, causing the crash. "We are super, super, super lucky to be alive," Boyette said.

The bus came to rest against the train and with the railroad crossing arm leaning on its roof just after 6:40 a.m. The approaching Amtrak train then clips the right front side of the bus," Cawton said. This is the second time in two weeks that a JTA bus was caught underneath a crossing arm gate and the fourth incident involving a JTA bus in three weeks. As our internal investigation continues, the bus operator involved has been placed on hold off status without pay.
