(CNN) - Chance the Rapper donned a red Chicago Teachers Union sweatshirt while hosting "Saturday Night Live" in a show of support to the teachers who have been on strike. Chicago teachers have been on strike since October 17 demanding more support staff, higher raises and limits to class size. Chicago Public Schools is the third biggest school district in the country. Michelle Gunderson, a public school teacher and trustee for the teacher's union, tweeted during SNL that the bargaining team was working but took a break to watch the rapper. One fan favorite was a no-show when Saturday Night Live kicked off its 45th season this weekend -- Pete Davidson. The 25-year-old comedian was missing in action because he's hard at work on the set of a new comic book adaptation, The Suicide Squad, in Atlanta. The acclaimed sketch series added some new blood to the cast this season with comedians Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman, and the pair both enjoyed some memorable (albeit somewhat brief) screen time during the season 45 premiere over the weekend. On Saturday, SNL returned for it's season 45 premiere, and many viewers were waiting to see how the show addressed the elephant in the room. In a since-deleted video from 2018, which was shared on Twitter by writer Seth Simons, Gillis makes racist jokes about Chinese people and makes offensive racial slurs. After a public apology from Gillis that many felt was half-hearted, Saturday Night Live decided to cut ties with Gillis. Gillis later addressed his firing, tweeting, "It feels ridiculous for comedians to be making serious public statements but here we are. (CNN) - There are plenty of games within the game at this Sunday's Emmy ceremony, but none more intriguing than whether "Game of Thrones" will go out in another blaze of glory, torching the field one more time after its polarizing final season. Still, there are several more milestones that could fall on Sunday, when the main Emmy ceremony is televised by Fox. Three more wins ("Thrones" is nominated in seven remaining categories) would bring the overall 2019 trophies to 13, eclipsing the show's own record of 12, reached in both 2015 and 2016. For starters, those most vocal in their criticism of the final season probably aren't entirely representative of the wider audience base. The Emmy Awards will air Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
