On Sunday evening’s socially distanced Emmy Awards, the Canadian comedy “Schitt’s Creek” made TV history by sweeping all of the major comedy awards it was nominated for, including all of the acting categories. “Schitt’s Creek” follows the rich Rose family, which is forced to move into a motel in the small town of Schitt’s Creek after they lose all of their money. It’s a fish out of water-type scenario, but as the Rose family begins to assimilate to the quirky town, viewers begin to fall in love with the quirky Roses. In reality, the cast of “Schitt’s Creek” should have been getting recognized by the Emmys for years now, but it was only until 2019 that the show and actors got recognized for their work. But there is no better way to go out on your last season of TV than by making history, right?

The HBO series won best television drama series at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night for its second season. It also won the best actor trophy for Jeremy Strong along with best writing and best directing. She won best actress in a drama for her role on HBO’s “Euphoria,” scoring one of the few long shot victories in a Sunday night full of wins from favorites. Star Regina King won best actress, her co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won best supporting actor and the show’s creator Damon Lindelof won for writing. Eugene Levy won best actor, Catherine O’Hara won best actress, Annie Murphy won best supporting actress, and Levy’s son, Dan Levy, claimed three: for best supporting actor, writing and directing.

The awards for Pop TV's “Schitt's Creek” included best comedy series and trophies for its stars, including Catherine O'Hara and father-son Eugene and Daniel Levy. Moments later, his son won the award for comedy writing for “Schitt's Creek” episode, then shared a directing award and captured the supporting actor comedy trophy. As “Schitt’s Creek” gobbled up comedy awards, that left acclaimed “Insecure” and its creator Issa Rae empty-handed. If you get the network Pop TV, then you've already seen the fifth season of the critically acclaimed (and wildly funny) show "Schitt's Creek."
