Jacksonville’s fire chief and mayor on Thursday talked with Northside homeowners and gave them new smoke detectors to those who need them to make sure they are safe.

Many electronic devices and appliances with clocks will adjust automatically, but smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms need a few moments–moments that can save lives.

By News4JAX count, five people have died in Jacksonville house fires in 2022, and on Thursday, the city’s Fire and Rescue Department took additional steps to prevent that number from increasing.
