After nearly 13 years in business, the beloved staple of the Five Points community shut its doors Saturday.

Despite pushback from the community when the sale was announced, the new owner of the building that houses Sun-Ray Cinema says the decades-old theater’s lease has expired and won’t be renewed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Movie theaters in Northeast Florida will be allowed to reopen Friday as part of the next phase of reopening the state in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The theater is preparing to welcome moviegoers back inside for the first time in more than two months, cleaning concessions and sanitizing each surface. As both theaters welcome moviegoers back, safety is their top priority so people can once again enjoy films safely.
