Organizers asked parade-goers to socially distance and encouraged them to wear masks. News4Jax saw groups both wearing masks and not wearing masks and most tried to keep their distance from one another, but some spots along the parade route did get more congested. “We are still going to try and have some fun but yes, definitely going to maintain some distance from everyone,” Taylor Self said. The Florida Department of Health reported 10,431 new cases of COVID-19 in the state on Saturday with 494 new cases in Duval County.

Her passion followed her to the polls when she moved to St. Johns County in the 2000s. Vicky Oakes, St. Johns County’s Supervisor of Elections told News4Jax the final number of people who voted early was 93,310. Like Bates, Wiles started in the 2000s and is now the clerk at the St. Augustine Beach voting precinct. Legislative records online show he represented District 20, which includes parts of Clay, Flagler and St. Johns counties.

Duval County voting equipment passes public test

In this random test of voting equipment, the ballots are fed into tabulating machines. As part of the test, some ballots have been marked incorrectly, such as votes for one than one person in a race. City Councilwoman Joyce Morgan and other members of Duval County’s Election Canvassing Board were also observing the test. The real test of the machines will be election day when there’s an expected record turnout.

After some Duval County voters raised concerns Tuesday about notification of precinct changes, a staff member in the Supervisor of Elections Office told News4Jax that precincts will be more prominently listed on Novembers sample ballots to avoid any future confusion. Voters can also quickly find their precinct on the Supervisor of Elections website by typing their address into the form on this page: https://www.duvalelections.com/Voter-Information/Precinct-Finder. Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan said requests are already rolling in from voters who want mail ballots for the General Election in November. In the Florida Primary, nearly 58,000 voters in Duval County cast ballots by mail. For the primary, mail-in ballots had to be delivered to the Supervisor of Elections Office by 7 p.m. Tuesday to count.
