A parole board in South Carolina has ruled unanimously that Susan Smith should remain in prison 30 years after she was convicted of rolling her car into a lake and drowning her two young sons.

Alfred Rowe was a guard at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, South Carolina, when he met Smith. Her name faded from the headlines until the early 2000s, when Rowe and another guard were fired for having inappropriate relationships with Smith.
