JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars remained in the locker room Sunday during the play of “Lift Every Voice and Sing" and “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts kicked off. The Jaguars released a statement on their decision. “We have decided to remain in the locker room during the pregame playing of ‘Life Every Voice and Sing’ and ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ to continue raising awareness of racial injustice against the Black community,” the statement reads, in part. “We understand that not everyone will agree with our position and demonstration, however we hope that all will seek to understand the reason for it. Just moments before the NFL’s 2021 season kicked off Thursday night, the Houston Texans remained in the locker room during the national anthem.

The person said the league is working collaboratively with players to recognize victims of systemic racism throughout the season in a variety of ways. The person spoke to the AP on Thursday on condition of anonymity because discussions between the league and the NFL Players Association are ongoing. Lift Evry Voice and Sing is traditionally known as the Black anthem. Itll be played first when the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans to kick off the NFL regular season on Sept. 10. Its uncertain whether fans will be in attendance Week 1 or at all this season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

CHICAGO The U.S. women's national team wants the U.S. Soccer Federation to repeal the anthem policy it instituted after Megan Rapinoe started kneeling during the The Star-Spangled Banner.The U.S. women's team also wants the federation to state publicly that the policy was wrong and issue an apology to the team's black players and supporters. Rapinoe took a knee during the anthem at a pair of national team matches in 2016. She said she wanted to express solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who silently took a knee during the national anthem before NFL games to raise awareness of police brutality and racial injustice. The U.S. Soccer Federation then approved a policy in February 2017 that stated players shall stand respectfully during national anthems. A message was left by the AP seeking comment from the federation.

Madison developed a love for singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" years ago and now she's known as the "Anthem Girl." "I love singing because I love to share my voice and it makes other people happy," she told Inside Edition. "The crowd started chanting 'Anthem Girl' and then that name just stuck and now I'm known as the 'Anthem Girl.'"
