The father is an aerospace engineer from Gainesville, and so is the mother, who made NASA facemasks for the family. But the excitement among the thousands of people who gathered to watch the spacecraft blast off shifted to disappointment about 4:15 p.m. when the launch was postponed until Saturday afternoon and crowds quickly scattered. You never know,” said Tonya Farthing, who traveled to view the launch. “I know better now -- kind of like a preview of where to park and set up and get a better view.”The next launch attempt is set for 3:22 p.m. Saturday, and after that, the next launch window would be Sunday.

(AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)TITUSVILLE, Fla. For the spectators gathered along the Space Coast on Wednesday for an astronaut launch, the rumbling thunder and darkening clouds were more worrisome than any pandemic. They turned out to watch the first launch with astronauts from Florida in almost a decade, and the first by a private company, SpaceX. About half of the spectators at the Titusville park wore masks as encouraged by health officials to stop the spread of the new coronavirus. I wanted them to see the flip side and get to see the next era of space travel," said Gatz, who lives about an hour away in Deltona.

SpaceX wants to beam internet across the American South by late 2020
Read full article: SpaceX wants to beam internet across the American South by late 2020(CNN) - SpaceX wants to become one of the world's largest internet providers by deploying a constellation of thousands of satellites to beam broadband from space. One key benefit of reaching those areas: satellite internet access wouldn't be wiped out by bad weather. And SpaceX has faced pushback from potential competitors in the satellite internet business, including Softbank-backed OneWeb. Creating a successful satellite internet business could be extremely lucrative. OneWeb, which is backed by Softbank, and Amazon have their own plans to build megaconstellations of internet satellites, though SpaceX is considered the frontrunner to become the first to market.

The Euro model shows the storm pushing even further south, and the split in the two models is affecting the forecast. But the new GFS track shows Dorian coming ashore about 75 miles further south now, moving it closer to the Euro model. But Rebecca says that wind and rain will still be a problem for Northeast Florida, no matter where Dorian makes landfall on the coast. We could still see tropical storm winds Monday and into Tuesday.

SpaceX just shared some footage from a successful attempt to recapture part of a rocket's nose cone after it plunged into the ocean. "Friction heats up particles in the atmosphere, which appear bright blue in the video," SpaceX said in a tweet that included the video. The fairing rests on the top of the rocket, and it acts as a shield for satellites that SpaceX launches for its customers. After most rocket launches, the fairing halves are left to plummet back to Earth, where the ocean becomes their graveyard.
