Authorities in North Carolina have found two people dead and about 20 remain missing in Haywood County in floods caused by Tropical Storm Fred.

Tropical Depression Fred has weakened to a depression and spawned several apparent tornadoes in Georgia as it dumps heavy rains into the Appalachian mountains.

Tropical Storm Fred continues to approach the panhandle as we continue to receive rounds of rainfall, especially coastal Georgia.

Tropical Depression Grace is drenching Haiti, dumping up to 15 inches of rain on a quake-damaged landscape as thousands of people huddle in fields and search for survivors.

The first of three tropical systems currently being monitoring in the Atlantic basin came ashore in the Florida Panhandle about 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Remnants of Fred have entered the lower Gulf of Mexico amid forecasts it would regain tropical storm strength late in the weekend as it moves toward the northern U.S. Gulf Coast.

High pressure across the region will continue deep easterly flow through Saturday.  Drier air has moved in from the east which will limit storm coverage.  Isolated showers, storms will develop along the east coast sea breeze and push inland.

Forecasters say tropical depression Fred is slowly strengthening and could regain tropical storm status on Saturday.

Tropical depression Fred is heading for a drenching of Cuba and the Bahamas on a forecast track that would carry it toward South Florida as a tropical storm by Saturday.

High pressure remains northeast of the area, continuing the onshore flow.  The combination of afternoon heating and additional support from the sea breeze will produce showers, storms again today.  Storms will move inland through afternoon.

Tropical Storm Fred has weakened to a tropical depression while sweeping over the Dominican Republic and dumping heavy rains that forecasters warn could cause dangerous flooding and mudslides there and in neighboring Haiti.
