The crash was reported around 9 p.m. on University Boulevard at Primrose Lane. JSO said the young man appeared to be in his 20s. A witness told police that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on University Boulevard North when the driver lost control and crashed head-on into the tree on the opposite side of the road. No one else was in the SUV, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The shooting victim, described as a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
