JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Duval County Health Department confirmed Friday that one case of the COVID variant first identified in the United Kingdom has been found in Jacksonville. According to data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated Thursday evening, 347 cases of this B.1.1.7 variant have been found in Florida. That more than one-third of the 981 cases identified in the United States so far. This announcement of a variant in Jacksonville comes one day after a student at the University of Central Florida was diagnosed with the U.K. variant of the coronavirus, which is thought to be more easily transmissible. ORLANDO, Fla. – A student at the University of Central Florida has been diagnosed with a variant of the coronavirus first found in the United Kingdom and thought to be more easily transmissible. The unidentified student tested positive this week, Michael Deichen, associate vice president of UCF Student Health Services said Thursday in a statement on the university's website. The Orlando-based university is one of the nation's largest with more than 66,000 students. University officials said the student was isolated and contact tracing measures were taken. Tens of thousands of college students around the nation have tested positive for the virus, and some campuses have seen spikes in cases with students returning to campus.

Hasan ran over a curb and hit London Harrell, 21, as she was walking home from a bar along a grass shoulder off the road in June 2019, authorities said. ORLANDO, Fla. The University of Central Florida on Wednesday suspended a sorority and a fraternity for violating the schools COVID-19 policies, News4Jax sister station WKMG reported. ZTA was placed on interim suspension for allegedly hosting an unapproved social gathering on campus, school leaders said. The sorority followed the universitys process for applying to host an event, but the event was still pending a decision from UCF when they elected to hold it anyway.Officials at the school also said the event willfully disregarded the universitys COVID-19 policies and guidelines. SAE was placed on interim suspension for allegedly hosting a large social gathering off campus that willfully disregarded the universitys COVID-19 policies and guidelines, officials added. Two students were placed on interim suspension for not complying with the universitys policies during the pandemic.

The DBPR said 13 employees of the bar tested positive for COVID-19 and 28 patrons of the bar tested positive for the coronavirus after visiting the bar. Court documents show The Knights Pub is accused of serving patrons alcoholic beverages while they were not being seated for service on June 5.
