Wounded Warrior Project, Vietnam Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, the Florida National Guard and Northeast Florida Women Veterans were just a few of the dozens of organizations that participated. Residents could attend in person or watch the event on TV, with WJXT Channel 4 airing the Veterans Day Parade live. Those who attended were encouraged to maintain social distancing and wear red, white and blue to support veterans. Bay Street from the Sports Complex to downtown, and Independent Drive and Water Street to the Prime Osborn Convention Center, was lined with family, friends and good food. There were dignitaries, military units, high school marching bands, JROTC units and dozens of community groups represented. The grand marshal of the parade was the oldest person living in Florida who served in the military: 101-year-old Sollie Mitchell. Our veterans risked everything for us, now it is our duty to serve and protect them," he said during remarks, calling U.S. veterans "America's greatest living heroes." New York Mayor and former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Bill de Blasio was seated in the front row as Trump spoke, briefly recognizing and thanking him. However, there were audible protests as the President spoke, chants of "traitor" and "lock him up" heard as Trump spoke in Madison Square Park. The parade, per the United War Veterans Council, has more than 25,000 participants, who will travel 1.2 miles north on Fifth Avenue.
