If approached by a coyote, the Illinois DNR had the following advice:"If you do see a coyote and if one approaches you, wave your arms around and yell," said Torbert. The DNR's website has other helpful tips that suggest teaching children to yell "like a monster" to scare the animal away.

(CNN) - The father of a 3-year-old boy who was killed in an accidental shooting in Chicago on Sunday has been charged in connection to the child's death. The toddler's family told police they heard a gunshot in another room and found the boy with a weapon, CNN affiliate WLS reported. Davis "knowingly left a loaded gun in a place where the child was able to access the weapon," police said. The child was wounded in the face and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, WLS reported. Chicago police have contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to assist in the case, according to WLS.

WLS via CNN(CNN) - The alligator that somehow ended up in Chicago's Humboldt Park has finally been caught. Chance the Snapper, as he came to be known, had been on the loose in the park for almost a week -- forcing a partial shutdown of the site. Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told CNN Tuesday the alligator was caught sometime overnight. The city brought in St. Augustine, Florida, alligator expert Frank Robb on Sunday to help capture Chance. The alligator had last been seen on Thursday around 1 a.m.The-CNN-Wire & 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.

Two families are suing Chicago's Mercy Hospital and the city's police department after the wrong man was taken off life support in a case of mistaken identity. Eventually, the man thought to be Bennett was moved to hospice care and taken off life support, the suit states. He died a few days later, and Bennett's family began funeral preparations. The hospital told WLS that it could not comment on pending litigation.
