People in that area saw hours of rain, with amounts up to an inch. We are watching a large area of showers and thunderstorms, located over Guinea and Sierra-Leone, Africa, is associated with a vigorous tropical wave. Environmental conditions are expected to be marginally conducive for some development of this system while the wave enters the extreme eastern Atlantic on Friday. Tracking The TropicsLooking AheadThe concern with these systems is the environmental conditions these storms will be entering may be conducive to development. Another factor that may lead to more conducive conditions for development is the weaker wind shear.

Designated 92L by the National Hurricane Center this large but organized system continues to swirl its way westward towards the Leeward Islands. If this develops as expected it would become the ninth tropical depression of the season and Tropical Storm Isaias. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon and will provide more information about the current state of the disturbance. Regardless of development, locally heavy rain is likely across portions of the Lesser Antilles beginning later today and continuing through Wednesday, especially in the Leeward Islands.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Puerto Rico, including Vieques, and Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is moving toward the west near 23 mph should continue during the next few days. All but two forecast models keep the tropical wave from becoming a hurricane. Land interaction with Puerto Rico and Hispaniola could also disrupt organization.

Tropical wave increases chances of rain this week
Read full article: Tropical wave increases chances of rain this weekJACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Weather Authority is tracking a tropical wave drifting towards the Bahamas and the National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance of development this week. Locally we expect this tropical wave to increase our rain chances starting on Wednesday, subsequently lowering our temperatures. Wind gusts will most likely not be an issue- we have seen stronger wind gusts within our afternoon thunderstorms than we will see with the tropical wave. Our rain chances will increase Thursday as the wave is nearby. Our chances for rain will decrease as we head into the weekend and the tropical wave pulls further away from us.
