A 16-year-old is facing charges after a deadly shooting Thursday morning that forced Westside High School to temporarily go on lockout.

A man was killed in a shooting Thursday morning at an apartment complex right across from Westside High School, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jovan Mills believes he was targeted when he was shot while walking to a school bus stop in September 2018 near Miss Muffet Lane on Jacksonvilles Westside. Since that day, the now 18-year-old has graduated from Westside High School and was accepted into a college. Several months ago, things changed when he met Westside High School Vice Principal Stephen Richardson during lunch period. Seeing potential in Mills, Richardson began mentoring the high school senior and taking him to church. I just started encouraging him, saying, make sure you hit this GPA mark, and thats kind of where it started," Richardson said.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - An 18-year-old student at Westside High School is facing multiple felony charges in Clay County after authorities said he broke into six cars in a neighborhood and stole another one. Jamon Orange was taken into custody at the school Thursday and booked into the Clay County Jail. Investigators said they developed evidence that led them to Orange, but when Clay County deputies contacted the administration at Westside High, they learned Orange was in the Duval County Jail on car burglary charges unrelated to their case. Orange was released from the Duval County Jail, and detectives picked him at Westside High to bring him in for questioning in the Clay County case. He's now in the Clay County jail on $35,000 bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Ed White Commanders and the Westside Wolverines have been rivals for a long time. During halftime of the game Friday they showed us that a rivalry does not have to be negative. Head Coach of the Lady Wolverines shared this video of the two teams working together to put on a great show.
