In its most recent report to date, the task force called on Florida to require weekly testing for all teachers of grades kindergarten through 12. The report encourages required testing on college campuses as well, but in addition to teachers, suggests students be included. He said the campus has been doing aggressive testing since spring, but in December, the university started requiring weekly tests for those on campus after break. Classes at the University of North Florida have already begun after it strongly recommended students get tested before returning.

A recent report from the White House Coronavirus Task Force says Florida and Duval County are in the midst of a full COVID-19 resurgence, and in turn management at several Jacksonville hospitals acknowledged they have been dealing with the surge. But Chad Neilsen, infectious disease director for UF Health Jacksonville, said the numbers are leveling out in the last two days. “I do think largely the Mayor’s Office extending the mask mandate across Duval County helped,” Neilsen told News4Jax. Across Baptist Health’s five facilities throughout Northeast Florida, there are 177 COVID-19 patients, 36 of them in the ICU.

The task force is also warning about the rapid spreading variant of the virus identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Orlando Sentinel began requesting the reports in October, and the governor's office provided three reports after the newspaper involved its attorneys.

According to Saturdays state data, an additional 90 coronavirus-related deaths were reported statewide, ending a streak of four consecutive days of more than 100 deaths. Duval County has now reported 15,903 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began with 470 hospitalizations and 93 deaths related to COVID-19. So far for the month of July, Florida has reported 185,135 cases in 18 days, averaging over 10,285 cases a day. Floridas single-day record for new cases, reported last Sunday, remains at 15,300.
