With coronavirus-related restrictions lifting and Floridians beginning to travel more, gasoline prices are the most expensive they have been in nine weeks. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Florida is $1.90, up 2 cents from last week and 14 cents from a month ago, according to the AAA auto club. AAA spokesman W. D. Williams said he expects prices will top $2 a gallon in the next week or two. We all know that as the demand increases, the prices are going to increase as well.Gas prices are still down 70 cents a gallon from a year ago. The bottom of gasoline prices are behind us, and we are going to see continued increases coming up in the future, Williams said.

Confirming much of what News4Jax was able to determine from JSO arrest records on Monday, Williams said there were 25 arrests on Saturday -- 23 of them Jacksonville residents -- and another 53 on Sunday -- 39 of them Duval County residents. Stores that had boarded their windows on Tuesday at the Town Center included Apple, Louis Vuitton and Tiffany and Company (see gallery above). Demonstrators across Jacksonville came together on Tuesday evening for peaceful protests around the Downtown Jacksonville area and in the Nocatee neighborhood in St. Johns County.

The letter from Jacksonville’s Chief of Solid Waste said “from October 2018 through August 2019, [trash hauler Republic Services] has been charged over $220,000” in fines. According to the letter, the fines were levied in response to more than 2,800 issues with Republic Services. District 1 City Councilmember Joyce Morgan said this week trash collection has been an issue for at least the last five years. Republic Services is not the only city trash company facing fines.
