More NFL hopefuls are getting an opportunity to stick around a little longer to showcase their skills this summer.

It was an unforgettable NFL draft for former local players, with a record number of players with area ties hearing their names called on a blockbuster final day.

The early entry deadline passed Monday and the NFL sent out the official list of early entrants on Friday. This year has a larger number of local players who have declared for the draft or who are eligible for it.

Iowa State running back Breece Hall is The Associated Press Big 12 offensive player of the year for the second year in a row.

Brock Purdy threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns and the Iowa State defense made a late stand in the closing minutes as the Cyclones knocked off No. 8 Oklahoma State 24-21.

Campbell, in his fifth season at Iowa State, got all 20 votes as coach of the year.
