St. Johns County officials issued mandatory evacuations in zones A, B and F Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Milton.

Few cars or people were out and about Wednesday in St. Augustine’s flood-prone neighborhood Davis Shores, located on Anastasia Island.

The City of St. Augustine Beach stepped in to manage yard debris collection for various sections on Anastasia Island in St. Johns County following the disastrous rollout of the contract with FCC Environmental Services which has since been terminated.

The HGTV 2024 Dream Home on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine has been controversial because a seawall was built without a city permit, extending five feet beyond St. Augustine's ordinance codes.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the renourishment project at Vilano Beach in St. Johns County, Florida, three months ahead of schedule. The project, which involved adding sand to the shoreline, was finished in December. The next project for the Army Corps will take place at St. Augustine Beach, where 2.5 million cubic yards of sand will be added from Anastasia Island to A Street. This upcoming project is set to begin in February.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla - Among the neighborhoods that saw the most significant effects of Hurricane Dorian was Davis Shores on Anastasia Island in St. Johns County. Davis Shores was devastated by flooding during Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma. As Dorian swept the coast Wednesday, many streets in Davis Shores were underwater. Jill Nicolino and her son, Caz, were cleaning up and gutting their two story home. Most people describe their brush with Dorian as fortunate, but for those who were affected, the headache is just beginning.

The 57-acre property is on the Intracoastal Waterway immediately adjacent to the State Road 312 bridge onto Anastasia Island. The Land Trust said Fish Island is a healthy maritime hammock forest and preserving it will help avoid water quality impacts to the Matanzas River. North Florida Land Trust is urging the community to show support for the protection of Fish Island, an environmentally sensitive and historically significant land, prior to the cabinet's July 23 meeting in Tallahassee. Recently the St. Augustine commissioners voted unanimously to approve management of Fish Island if the state agrees to buy the property. The NFLTs posted information on its campaign to preserve Fish Island on its website.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The St. Augustine Police Department is investigating after acts of graffiti were reported at the city marina and at several locations on Anastasia Island. On Monday night, officers were sent to the St. Augustine Municipal Marina in reference to criminal mischief in the men's restorrm. Marina staff said a stall sink was pulled out of the wall and broken into pieces. On Tuesday morning, officers responded to several locations on Anastasia Island after someone reported graffiti. Officers found approximately 29 locations.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The St. Augustine Police Department is conducting an investigation after graffiti was discovered on Anastasia Island in the Davis Shore area Tuesday. Authorities said 30 locations were discovered with graffiti and that nobody has been taken into custody. The department is also investigating mischief to a public restroom at a city marina.
