Hurricane Milton is forecasted to bring a major storm to Florida this week. Thousands are being asked to evacuate areas in and around Tampa Bay and along Florida’s West Coast as the storm moves towards landfall.

Mandatory evacuations were underway Wednesday for roughly 180,000 people in St. Johns County as Hurricane Ian approaches the state. People living near water are advised to go to higher ground and leave their homes.

Putnam County Commissioner Bill Pickens said residents can expect seven to 15 inches of rain and 39-58 mph winds. The storm surge on the St. Johns River is expected to reach three feet.
