JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed in a shooting Saturday night in the city’s historic Springfield neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriff’s Office, police and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a shooting on 7th Street West near Silver Street and found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Detectives with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office have arrested John Ward Gill, charging him with murder in the shooting death of his brother on Sunday. John Gill, 63, was transported to the Orange Park Medical Center with self-inflicted injuries that were not life-threatening. The Sheriff’s Office said this appeared to be a case of domestic violence. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gill family,” Public Affairs Officer Andrew Ford wrote in announcing details of the case. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have charged a 27-year-old man with third-degree murder in a Jan. 3, 2020 double shooting on West 12th Street near Canal Street. Malik Brown, 18 was killed and a second man was wounded in what police believed was a robbery. Brown was a former Robert E. Lee High School football player who was attending Warner University and had a 1-month-old son. Daniel Denyasha, the man wounded in the shooting, was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree murder. He told police he thought he hit one of them.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead Monday morning outside the Kings Inn Hotel on Dix Ellis Trial, which runs off Baymeadows Road near Interstate 95. Jacksonville police were called to the area when a passerby spotted a body. Detectives did say how the person died, leaving that up to the medical examiner, but they do suspect foul play.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a young woman who was found shot to death Monday morning at Normandy Park, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday. He said she had been trying to leave an abusive relationship with a man named Deiondre Lewis. Police confirmed Tuesday that Lewis had been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed firearm in connection with the shooting. Nov. 13: 54-year-old Terrion McQueen is shot and killed while sitting in her SUV outside a friend’s house in Oakleaf. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder after her 2018 shooting death on Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman in her 20s was found shot to death Monday morning at Normandy Park, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue. A weapon and other evidence were located between where the victim was found and where the subject was taken into custody. “The witnesses provided a clothing and a physical description and the general area which he fled on foot,” JSO homicide Sgt. Her uncle, Timothy Williams, identified the victim as Ta’Liyah Williams. Tuesday morning the Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect, Deiondre Lewis, 22, as the man who was taken into custody.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police called to a Windy Hill neighborhood by a man out walking his dog Sunday morning found a plastic container dumped in a retention pond. Inside, police found a naked man dead with a gunshot wound. A Jacksonville homicide detective said the dive team retrieved a gray storage container from the pond on Dalry Drive, east of Southside Boulevard, and only a block from Windy Hill Elementary School. The victim inside was estimated to be between 30-40 years old. The pond is on land owned by the city of Jacksonville and adjoins the Windy Hill Community Center.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 20-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder months after a 15-year-old was shot at a Southside apartment complex. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Branden Chau was charged Friday in the March 15 shooting at the Pinebrook Apartments on Powers Avenue. The victim, identified by family as Jaedon Pita, was found lying in a parking lot about 10:30 p.m. He died at a hospital. At the time police said there was an altercation before the shooting, but they didn’t know if the victim knew the shooter or was the intended victim.

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Homicide detectives called to a suspicious death early Monday morning on Redfin Drive at Sailfish Drive said a man was stabbed several times. Police said a resident of the home who called 911 about 1:15 a.m. but didn’t yet know that person’s relationship with the victim. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Atlantic Beach police with the investigation. Neighbors told News4Jax the people in that house moved in about a year ago but didn’t know much about them. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said if this is a domestic killing, it there shouldn’t be a threat to public safety -- but police haven’t said.

BARTOW, Fla. – A grand jury formally charged a 26-year-old man with three counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shootings of three friends who had gathered at a central Florida lake in July for some late night fishing. Prosecutors have 45 days to determine whether to seek the death penalty for Tony ``T.J.'' Wiggins Jr., following the grand jury’s findings late Tuesday, the Ledger reported. He said his brother accused Springfield, who was a mechanic, of taking his truck, reports said. He also told investigators he couldn’t find his son’s phone because it had fallen between the seats in the truck. Investigators said they found bullets at the home where Wiggins was living that matched the ones fired at the scene, arrest reports said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pregnant woman was shot early Tuesday morning as she slept in her apartment on Kona Avenue, and the woman’s unborn child has died, police said. A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the woman, in her late 20s, was shot once in the stomach around 1:15 a.m. She was stabilized at the hospital but was reportedly in serious condition. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A shooting in the back parking lot of a Checkers Drive-In Restaurant on Kings Road left Sunday afternoon left one man dead and one man critically injured, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Arriving officers found two men in their early 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside their black four-door sedan. JSO is working to identify these men and notify their next of kin. "I think they are just stopping people who are coming through, trying to identify. There are family members that have come towards trying to find out if these are their family members or not.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An 18-year-old woman is dead and a 21-year-old man has non-life threatening injuries after a double shooting at the Cross Creek Apartment Complex on the Westside of Jacksonville. A spokesperson for Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened before 1 a.m. According to police, the 18-year-old and 21-year-old were sitting in a vehicle when a shooter approached, likely with a rifle, and fired multiple rounds at the vehicle. JACKSONVILLE, FLa. Six months after the body of a 27-year-old man was found early in a parking lot of a shopping plaza on Atlantic at Kernan boulevards, Jacksonville police announced the arrest someone believed to be with the victim during a nearby attempted armed robbery. Austin Douglas was found shot to death about 7 a.m. March 3 between two cars the parking lot of the plaza anchored by Kohls. Detectives said they learned that Douglas and two others were involved in an attempted robbery and aggravated battery on Woodbridge Court -- off Kernan. A U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force found Lott in Valdosta on Aug. 22 and made the arrest. On Wednesday, Lott was booked into the Duval County jail and charged formally charged with felony murder, attempted murder, attempted home invasion and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An argument Saturday evening in a Northwest Jacksonville neighborhood ended with at least one gunshot and a man dead, according to police. He was taken to a hospital by Jacksonville Fire-Rescue, where he pronounced dead. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office homicide investigators said the unidentified man who shot the victim drove away in a black car. According to News4Jax records, this was the 122nd homicide of the year in Duval County -- 100 of those ruled murders. There have been 374 people shot in Jacksonville this year -- including five in less than eight hours over the weekend.

Six weeks after 22-year-old Malik Sykes was shot and killed by the person he was trying to rob at a convenience store, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a man police believed was Sykess accomplice that day. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office said Shantez Forbes, 21, was arrested Wednesday on charges of felony murder, attempted robbery, shooting missiles and carrying a concealed firearm. Under Florida law, Forbes is charged with murder because Sykes death took place during the commission of a felony: attempted armed robbery. The State Attorneys Office has a long history of filing murder charges in such cases.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An SUV sought in connection with a deadly shooting Monday at a gas station on Edgewood Avenue has been found, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. The SUV was located after police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of the silver Nissan Rogue, as well as the suspected gunman. The shooting happened around 9 a.m. Monday at the Shell gas station at the corner of Edgewood Avenue West and Avenue B. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman shot multiple times inside a car Monday morning at a Shell gas station on Edgewood Avenue West has died, and Jacksonville police believe she was targeted. Jacksonville Fire-Rescue was called just after 9 a.m. to the scene at the corner of Edgewood Avenue and Avenue B, but the victim could not be resuscitated. Homicide detectives who responded were told a man pulled up in a silver Nissan SUV, got out and fired several shots into the woman’s car before driving off. Family members and friends could be seen staring across at the car where their loved one was shot to death. In Jacksonville, eight people have been shot in the first three days of August.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jacksonville Sheriffs Officers arrived at the WaWa gas station on Wilson Boulevard on Jacksonvilles Westside just after 11:30 Saturday night, in response to a reported shooting. Officers found who appeared to be a teenage girl suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say that primary investigation uncovered that there was an altercation of some kind inside the convenience store. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A 33-year-old Jacksonville man is charged with murder in a deadly stabbing that unfolded in the Lakeshore area over the weekend. Brandon Williamson is accused of stabbing a 46-year-old man who was found bleeding from the chest Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. Someone called 911 about 10 p.m. that night to report a man had been stabbed near where Lexington Avenue and Hamilton Street meet, the Sheriffs Office said. Based on preliminary details, homicide detectives determined that the victim and Williamson had gotten into a dispute that turned violent, the Sheriffs Office said. James Cole was 51 years old. Last week, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office arrested Arnett Bonner III was arrested for second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two 19-year-olds were arrested this week and charged with second-degree murder in a Jacksonville shooting death. Police said a man in his 40s was shot and killed Jan. 31 while driving on West Union Street in the Mixontown neighborhood. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died. Police said at the time they were looking for two men in a dark-colored sedan and announced the following week they had located the car. On Wednesday, police announced that Rashaurd D’Shaun Lewis and Terron Da’Sean Robinson Jr. were arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Duval County jail.

One man got life in prison for that case, while a second man is serving a 20-year sentence. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives said the shooting happened on Logan Street, north Beaver Street, about 2:55 p.m. The victim drove about two blocks before crashing into a vacant lot at the corner of Acorn and West Union streets, next to Eugene Butler Middle School. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died. Investigators said they were looking at surveillance video hoping to identify the gunmen’s vehicle.

Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in the Nov. 15 murder of Felisia Williams, who was shot and killed in her Gate Parkway apartment. Police called to the Gardens of Bridgehampton apartment complex that afternoon found the woman dead in one of the units. Keeshaun Glover, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On 25-year-old man was shot and killed Nov. 8 at the Century Deerwood Park Apartments on Gate Parkway. As of Friday, that victim has not been named and no one has been arrested in the case.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of a former Lee High School football player Malik Brown came forward Monday afternoon asking for information his murder Friday night. Brown's family was joined by members of the clergy and Jacksonville City Council to discuss his death and the lack of arrests. "This is my family and also my community," relative Brittany Herndon said. The group is also setting up a community plan to stop continuing violence in the same Jacksonville neighborhoods. The family held Monday’s news conference at the Cochran Law Firm because Brown had a relative who works there and the whole firm is devastated.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who police believe was shot once in the abdomen was found dead in a white SUV Tuesday morning in front of a house on West 42nd Street, half a block west of Main Street. Adam Blinn said a resident called 911 about 7:30 a.m. to report a person unresponsive in a vehicle. When police and Jacksonville Fire-Rescue personnel arrived, the man was dead. One man who works in the area thinks the shooting death probably has something to do with drug dealing. This was the 134th homicide in Jacksonville this year.
