The study, requested by St. Augustine’s city commission shows a large portion of the Historic District’s lighting falls within the “poor” and “very poor” categories.

The wildly popular Nights of Lights holiday light display overwhelmed some parts of St. Augustine last season and sent the city into a deficit of more than $300,000.

City leaders are working to find solutions to the high amounts of traffic during Nights of Lights after the 2024 holiday season saw more traffic than ever before.

For the fourth year in a row, St. Augustine’s four craft breweries have teamed up to give back. Chris Fitts with Angels in Architecture and his team have been hanging the lights for Nights of Lights for more than 20 years. "It takes what's already beautiful, St. Augustine, and makes it even more beautiful at night by enhancing what's already there," explained Paul Williamson, City of St. Augustine Public Affairs Director. To prepare for Nights of Lights, Fitts said they maintain all the equipment year-round and then start installing some of the lights as early as August.
